​Welcome to the Shobukan Judo Club!  

The instructors would like to extend our welcome to you and your family.  The following information should assist you in answering some of the frequently asked questions regarding enrollment. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]. 

New Membership Eligibility

The following criteria is to apply to any individual seeking to join the Shobukan Judo Club.

The individual must:
  1. Be healthy 
  2. Be at least five years old
  3. Have a positive attitude
  4. Have health insurance: Judo is relatively safe under the guidance of an experienced judo instructor.  There is, of course, always a possibility of injury, so we require all our members to have their own health insurance coverage (i.e., HMSA, Kaiser, HMAA, etc.).

Complete the US Judo Federation Individual Membership Application: 
Shobukan Judo Club is a member of the USJF and we require all our members to join as a regular member.
Benefits include:
  • Accident medical insurance coverage ($2,500 deductible & $25,000 maximum benefit)
  • Eligibility for USJF programs, subject to specifics for each program (Awards, Scholarships, Promotions, Participation in sanctioned events, etc.)
  • Time-in-grade credit towards promotion
  • USJF magazine
​​Uniforms

Beginners will need a Judogi (Judo uniform) which can be purchased through our club for approximately $50-$70.  TaeKwonDo/Karate uniforms are not sturdy enough and therefore unacceptable for Judo.
Your First Day at Shobukan

  • Come at least 15 minutes before class begins. 
  • Introduce yourself to a Black Belt Sensei (instructor) and let them know you'd like to enroll.
  • Submit your registration forms and membership dues.
  • Put on your judogi (uniform).
